Hello friends!! Hoping that you are all excited about the weekend and about summertime. Let’s face it, many of us women are not 100% thrilled about summer. Well, I will be honest. I feel like this is the season of piling on many hats: chauffeur, referee, chef, counselor, events coordinator, personal shopper, detective, nurse, maid. And, the list continues to grow. If I can be completely honest, the bratty side of me would much rather vacation all summer long, lay out by the pool, and have poolside food service all day everyday. LOL. That is very realistic, right!?!
With all of these commitments, it is so easy to start feeling burnt out. I personally have had many times throughout my adulthood where I have been at a low place. It’s not fun.

More honesty: I have moments where I would rather stay in bed and have zero task on my to do list. My kids will even throw me under the bus: “Dad, Mom has been in her bed all day.”. For me, I have learned this pattern in my life. When I shy away from being dependent on God and shy away from being excited about the assignments that God has laid out for me, I am borderline “burnt out”. Something has to change. I can’t wake up with the feelings of “blah, blah, blah”.
So, how do we keep our sanity and joy???
Here are just 3 of the most vital ways for me to avoid burnout {I have learned the hard way and, gosh, I’m still learning}:
1) Don’t forget to take time to REST
When you take time for yourself (body, soul and spirit), everyone around you benefits. Psalm 23 says that God lays you and I down in lush meadows, finding us quiet pools to drink from. And, that He lets us catch our breath and makes us feel secure. He revives our drooping head; our cup brims with blessing. What?!!! This makes my heart go pitter-patter. This is a divine peace that He brings when we learn how to sit still and rest. Sometimes, I just have to say NO to the busyness, and YES to resting. Y’all, I’m preaching to myself.
2)Don’t ignore those longings for healthy friendships
You and I need each other. We were created for companionship. Loneliness (grrr, I can’t stand that feeling), it is a trap to keep you and I burnt out and isolated. Ecc 4:9-10 tells us that two are better than one. If either one of us falls down, one can help the other up. But, pity on anyone who falls and has no one to help them up. Ouch!! This is a must. I don’t find my identity in my friendships, but I do find healing in being open and real with those around me (James 5:16 sooo good). We all need that safe place and cheerleader that comes along with a friendship.
3)Don’t forget to be grateful and hopeful
Gosh, y’all, this will set you free. I have been on both sides of the spectrum: hoping for the best and stating the worst. I notice it now because I hear others that have trash talk coming out of their mouth about almost everything: this city, these kids, my body, my husband, that person, that teacher, Walmart, etc.. Look, I know that everything isn’t perfect, but there is magnificent moments happening all around us and even in our homes. Acknowledge those moments- be hopeful, be grateful.
Okay, let’s talk a little about fashion.. while on the subject about wearing many hats, this is a hat that would look cute on everyone. It’s lightweight and comes in a few sizes. I just have a thing for hats if you didn’t notice. They add the perfect amount of cuteness and coolness. Click the link below to shop this exact hat.
Anywho, thanks for stopping by today. Hope that I was able to give you a little bit of encouragement. We are in this together.
