CAPE blazer • SheIn

Do you ever read your old journals, ancient diaries or even your notes that are on your phone?? Well, I do, and I am shocked at how far I’ve come and shocked at how much I still need to grow and to mature.
Well, I shared this little heart gush last year, and it was so good for me to revisit these thoughts:

“People {including me} are fickle: we change our minds, our attitudes, and our affections so often that it is difficult for us to figure out own self out at times. Life {some God and some not God} can throw you unpredictable people and unpredictable circumstances… And, so much uncertainty starts to stir. One day, you have an amazing job, and the next day, it is your past job. It makes us think “Is this really happening.. It must be a joke?”
Mike, my husband, says often “where’s the camera? Someone has to be filming this.” {pulling a bad prank}

Alice, from Alice in Wonderland, stated “I knew who I was this morning, BUT I’ve changed a few times since then.”

I can so relate to this statement. I wake up most mornings excited about my life, my family, my morning scoop of peanut butter or almond butter, my task for the day then “BAM”.. I have been struck with a bad case of fickle feelings:
one of the kids throws a fit about their socks not fitting right {aggravation}, two huge zits appeared on my face {depression}, a dog pees on my cowhide rug {ticked}, an inconsiderate person comments on my Facebook status {offended}, my friend forgot to include me in the girl’s luncheon {heartache}, my husband is being sarcastic {back to aggravation} and now, I just want to crawl back in my bed {exhaustion}.

I feel that I just exuded an ugly array of multiple personalities within a short period of time, and I totally lost my excitement for the day, my focus to get those daily task accomplished, and His grace to carry on.

A fickle heart is hard to maintain. Feelings are certainly God given, but they should never rob us of our joy and our assignments. Feelings can misguide us and take us on a wild, goose chase for hours, for days, for weeks, for years. And, before we realize it, we were robbed of so much joy and happiness.

Life is a battle of wanting to feel the sunshine on your skin but needing the air conditioner so we don’t sweat; wanting to have alone time but not wanting to be lonely; wanting to be physically fit but needing that chocolate covered donut with sprinkles; wanting to know what God has in store for your future but subconsciously plotting out your own plan for your life; wanting to be the best parent for your kids but not wanting to deal with the kids unruliness; wanting to have those best friends but not willing to invest and to initiate.

Free will makes room for so many options and choices. Without God’s Word tucked away in our heart {Psalm 119:11}, we are ALL prone to go on that wild goose chase and to follow the sporadic feelings of our fickle, deceived heart {Jeremiah 17:9}.

The GOOD NEWS is His Word teaches my fickle heart to be single-minded in my pursuit. His presence steadies my emotions and feelings. He grants me grace to approach the day, confidence to be true to who He has called me to be, and faith that He has it all under control.”

Well, my outfit of choice is a reflection of my fickle sense of style.
