THE ULTIMATE TRAVEL GUIDE OF THE AMALFI COAST

July 3, 2024

For the last 6+ years, the Amalfi Coast has been on my bucket list. And y’all, it did not disappoint!! The Amalfi Coast is a gorgeous coastline of towns in Southern Italy and is known as one of the most stunning coastlines in the world. There are 13 towns and villages on the Amalfi Coast: Amalfi, Atrani, Cetara, Conca de’ Marini, Furore, Maiori, Minori, Positano, Praiano, Ravello, Scala, Tramonti, and Vietri sul Mare.

We chose ahead of time which towns were a must on our list so that we would make the most of our six days. I  booked just one place in Positano for our entire stay, and I am so happy that we did this.

TRAVEL DETAILS:

Before we left for our trip, I booked our train tickets from Rome to Naples with ItaliaRail, and and it was only a hour and a half. From there, we had our Airbnb host book us a private driver to pick us up at the station. And, it was another hour and a half to Positano. If you get motion sickness, I highly suggest to take some Dramamine. Here is the whatsapp number for our private driver, Alex, +33 333 908 1114. He was awesome!!

If you are only wanting to visit the Amalfi Coast, you can book your flight from the U.S. straight to Naples. And from the airport, take the ferry to Positano or book a private driver.

WHERE TO STAY:

Casa Nonna Luisa is the Airbnb that we stayed at in Positano. And, we LOVED it. Alessandro was the perfect host, and he offered to help me book and plan everything. He also gave us exact bus and ferry details when we were touring other towns. This was a huge help.

Here is another home option, Casa TEODORA, that is stunning and has a great view. We met the owners who were thee sweetest. They would be the perfect host for your stay in Positano. And if you want to splurge on a hotel experience that is closer to the beach and less stairs, I highly recommend, Hotel Palazzo Murat.

The hotel has a beautiful view of Positano, a gorgeous pool, a restaurant, and a lovely courtyard that has live music on certain nights.

WHAT TO DO:

Day 1:

We didn’t arrive in Positano from Naples until after lunch so we quickly changed and headed to the beach, Spiaggia Grande, aka Marina Grande Beach Positano or Positano Spiaggia. This is the main Positano beach and also the largest. We opted to just enjoy the free area of the beach since we only had a couple of hours. Each beach does have a small free area (which is very crowded), but if you are want to enjoy a full day, I highly suggest to book an umbrella and chairs, it’s €60-80 for two, CLICK HERE. The beaches are not sand but rocks which makes the lounge chairs extra fabulous. And if you want to book a bougier area, La Scogliera starts at €200 for two beds. Booking ahead of time is a must especially in the summer. To reserve your spot, CLICK HERE.

After relaxing at the beach, we had dinner reservations RISTORANTE ADAMO ED EVA which was beautiful. I had the best steak. And, we enjoyed some delicious pasta too.

And to end this lovely night, we picked up some gelato from the market on the way back to our Airbnb.

.

Day 2:

We had to wake up early for our 8 hour boat tour of the Amalfi Coast. Alessandro booked this for us with Ciro, CLICK HERE to book with Coast to Coast. This was top on our list because everyone kept saying that it was a must. And, the girls wanted to swim in the water and grottos.

He picked us up at the main pier which was to the right of the beach. And y’all, we rate this experience a 100/10!!! It was thee best day. We are so glad that we chose to do a full day. We saw the entire Amalfi Coast by boat, learned about some historic spots, and enjoyed an authentic Italian lunch along the way. Ciro was the best skipper (so chill and patient with whatever that we wanted to do), and he did provide fresh fruit and Prosecco. AND, we must add that his boat was the most beautiful and picturesque that we saw on the water.

After our boat tour, we went freshen up and changed into pretty dresses for dinner. But before dinner, FRANCO’s was on the schedule for a sunset view. And, it didn’t disappoint. They do not take reservations. We arrived right before 6 o’clock, and we had to wait for about 30 minutes to get a table. It was worth it. After enjoying the sunset, we ate dinner right next door at RISTORANTE 𝗟’𝗔𝗡𝗖𝗢𝗥𝗔. It was a lovely view too and a perfect ending to another beautiful day.

Day 3:

This was the day that I was so excited to experience too~ our COOKING CLASS with RISTORANTE km0. We took a bus to Praiano which only took about 15 minutes, and it was only €2 (we paid the driver when we got on the bus).

Y’all, Chef Antonio and his wife, Ariana, were THEE sweetest and made us feel welcomed the moment that we walked through the door. And, their restaurant is just so beautiful and modern~ we LOVED it.

We made homemade pesto gnocchi with basil and fresh ingredients from their dad’s garden, homemade bread, and limoncello tiramisu. And y’all, it was SO delicious and so FUN!!! I highly recommend booking a class with km0 or visit their restaurant for lunch or dinner. They can even come to your home in Positano for a private cooking class. Y’all will adore them as much as we do!!

Next on the agenda was to do some shopping around Positano. We found so many perfect souvenirs for family and friends. I highly suggest to visit Theodora Positanoand CB Positano. They have lovely, authentic clothing, travel/makeup bags, and accessories from Positano. Just exploring each street of shops was just so fun.

We ended our night with some pizza from THE BRASSERIE at the Covo Dei Saraceni. This casual restaurant is located outside of the hotel with a view of the beach and pier. We enjoyed the chill vibe of this dinner.

Day 4:

This was our relaxing day at the beach. Alessandro highly recommended Fornillo Beach which is the only other Positano beach that you can reach by foot. It’s much smaller and calmer than the main beach. It’s a favorite of the locals. It was a 15-20 minute walk from our Airbnb, and it wasn’t bad at all. We reserved chairs and umbrellas at Da Ferdinando Beach Club, CLICK HERE. And, what a beautiful scenery that we witnessed. We didn’t know what to expect, but it was amazing. This beach club has a restaurant and bar too which is so nice. The food was so excellent. I even was able to order my lemon sorbet which became a favorite treat!! We rate this a 10/10.

After a full day of relaxing, we headed back to our Airbnb to freshen up and change for dinner.

We had dinner reservations at the highly rated, RISTORANTE La Tagliata. They offer free bus shuttles to their restaurant which was so nice. They picked us up right by our Airbnb.CLICK HERE to book reservations in advance.

Y’all, the view, the ambiance, the staff, and the food was just wonderful. It is a fixed price and menu. We weren’t prepared for the amount of food that we were going to be served. But, it was all divine. The fresh tomato salad, the beans and the ribeye were three of my favorites. I asked them for the recipe for the beans because they were the best that I’ve tasted. We highly recommend adding this restaurant to your agenda.

Day 5:

This was our last full day so we headed to Capri to tour it by boat with Tonyno, CLICK HERE to book with him. We had to walk down to the Positano pier a little early to purchase our Capri ferry tickets. The earliest ferry boat was for 9am. If you get motion sickness, I highly suggest to take non-drowsy Dramamine ahead of time~this ferry ride could be rough.

Once we arrived in Capri, we headed to meet Tonyno. We booked a four hour boat tour since the last ferry back to Positano was at 5pm. This was a perfect way to learn and to see Capri since we didn’t have time to stay on the island. It is absolutely gorgeous. The water is just dreamy. We were able to swim and to see more grottos. I thoroughly enjoyed seeing the island through a local’s eyes. Tonyno provided for us some fresh fruit from his garden and Prosecco. It was a perfect day on the water.

P.S. I’ll definitely come back to Capri for 4-5 days with Mike since we didn’t get to really explore.

.

This is what was on my list for Capri, but we ran out of time:

1)Villa San Michele: An enchanting villa with beautiful gardens + stunning views.

2)Monte Solaro: The highest point on the island offering breathtaking views.

3)Anacapri: A charming town located on the slopes of Monte Solaro.

4) Faraglioni Rocks: Iconic rocks rising from the Mediterranean Sea.

5)Gardens of Augustus: A peaceful botanical garden with panoramic views of the island.

6)Marina Piccola: A picturesque beach area with gorgeous water.

7)Villa Lysis: A historic villa built by Jacques d’Adelswärd-Fersen, known for its unique architecture + view overlooking the sea.

8)Punta Carena Lighthouse: A picturesque lighthouse located on the western tip of the island, offering stunning sunset views and a rugged coastline to explore.

.

Before heading back to Positano, we had lunch at a cute place by the pier. And, we ate more gelato and lemon sorbet!!

Once we were back in Positano, we went back to our Airbnb to freshen up and change. Next on the agenda was meeting up with Raphael at Hotel Palazzo Muratto listen to live music in the courtyard while eating some appetizers. This was a scene out of a movie. No Joke!! We loved everything about this. When this ended, we headed to FRANCO’s to just chill and to enjoy the view. We met the most amazing couples from Oregon. We went listen to more music with our new friends at Music on the Rocks which was so cool because it’s cavelike venue carved into a waterfront cliff.

What a day!!!!

We didn’t have enough time in the day to visit Amalfi or Ravello, but that just means that we will have to go back to the Amalfi Coast.
.

Day 6:

This was our last day before heading to the Naples airport. We just packed up and took our time. We did hire a porter to help with a luggage, and a private driver to bring us to the airport.

.

.

WHAT TO PACK:

Here is a list that I made. And, I’m adding what shoes and clothing that I suggest on another blog post. And y’all, I don’t regret backing anything. I wore it all, and I only had two clean shirts on the last day. All of outfits are linked in my LTK shop, CLICK HERE to check it out.
